Tom Jones And Imelda May to rock Marquee as Miss Cork crowned
Best foot forward for Anita as she bids to bring home Miss Universe Ireland title
HAVING been crowned Miss Universe Cork earlier this year, Anita O’Brien is set to represent the Rebel County at this year’s national final in Dublin tomorrow night. The 19-year-old from Glounthaune has two brothers and is a self- proclaimed tomboy who grew up more interested in sport than modelling.
But last year’s Miss Cork winner Mairéad O’Farrell, who is a close friend, encouraged her to enter the competition.
Anita is currently studying commerce at University College Cork and believes that her participation in the Miss Universe Ireland contest has the potential to greatly influence her future career, in terms of her self-confidence and interview skills and techniques. She said: “I used to be shy. Personally, I feel it’s a fantastic opportunity to grow as a person.”
The Cork title has also allowed Anita to get involved with charity work, most recently with the Irish Deaf Society. “It was great to be able to offer help. It is something I would not have been able to do were it not for Miss Universe Cork.”
The Miss Universe Ireland final, sponsored by Iclothing.ie takes place tomorrow night at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin. The pageant is made up of three rounds — evening wear, swimwear and an on-stage interview.
Anita will be wearing a dress by Verso, a new fashion boutique in Douglas, while Sobe Brown of Morrison’s Quay will be styling her hair and make-up. The girls are not accompanied by male escorts in the Miss Universe Ireland pageant, however, Anita’s boyfriend Aidan O’Sullivan will be cheering her on from the audience.
She will be joined at the pageant by former Miss Cork Etaoin Ní hAilpín who is participating in the competition as the replacement for Miss Whizzer who had to forfeit her place.
The winner of Miss Universe Ireland will go on to compete in the 60th Miss Universe pageant this September in Brazil.
As she prepares for tonight’s Miss Universe Ireland pageant, Etaoin Ní hAilpín talks diet, weight and fashion — and reveals the essentials for her travel bag
